Born in Nigeria in 1975 to Italian parents, Sergio Voci traveled the Middle East throughout his childhood before settling in Italy, where he has found a home. The complexity of the cultures he experienced appears in his work, shaping it dramatically. However, if there is one word that defines Sergio’s work, that is the drawing. Its design, its shapes, its objects, whether real or imagined, are the basis of his production.
Despite the use of different techniques and materials are the starting point of his research, in recent years the artist has gone back to his earlier production, creating new and contemporary versions.
The artist accompanies us along with a humble imagination of iconic representations of everyday life. Indeed, his work accepts and absorbs the concept of “diversity”, referencing classical mythology, folklore, superstitions and traditions, information and high-tech industries, popular culture, religious iconographies, craft techniques. It is a mix, which provides pleasure and anxiety, a right balance of both the local and the global.
